NAPOLIAN ISSUE BY KEILA GUILARTE
TALLULAH ROOM PROJECT – STAND E008
On the occasion of the 15th edition of MIA Photo Fair BNP Paribas 2026, Tallulah Studio Art presents Tallulah Room – Napolian Issue, a presentation highlighting a new body of work by Keila Guilarte, included in the Focus Latino Projects section, curated by Rischa Paterlini. The exhibition complements and completes Tallulah Studio Art’s broader curatorial concept presented at the fair, Becoming. Images in Transformation, a photographic project that explores metamorphosis as a continuous and inevitable process, traversing existence, identity, and the materiality of the photographic image. Metamorphosis is understood as an intermediate state, a threshold in which who we are enters into dialogue with who we are becoming. Two distinct stands are conceived as autonomous yet complementary environments within a unified reflection on contemporary imagery.
Tallulah Room – Napolian Issue takes shape as a space of presence and concentration, a symbolic room in which photography becomes a tool of identity affirmation—an essential visual gesture charged with meaning—entrusted to a single artist, Keila Guilarte.
Napolian Issue by Keila Guilarte
Napolian Issue is a photographic series that interprets feminine identity as a form of radical, conscious, and unwavering presence. Through a rigorous aesthetic language—neutral backgrounds, essential lighting, and direct frontal gaze—Keila Guilarte constructs images in which the female body asserts itself as an archive of memory, strength, and belonging.
The works do not describe a place nor narrate a real city: Naples becomes a symbolic condition, an embodied collective root, dense with cultural, spiritual, and emotional stratifications. Each subject occupies the space with authority and intensity, resisting folkloric, decorative, or stereotypical narratives.
A central element of the project is the dialogue between body and symbol, where references to spiritual tradition coexist with a representation of the female body free from judgment and rhetoric. In this controlled yet never illustrative tension, Guilarte’s work develops an iconic force capable of engaging both institutional contexts and international collections.
The works from Napolian Issue are presented in a limited edition of 5 + 2 AP, produced using museum quality printing processes.
The artist
Keila Guilarte
Keila Guilarte is a Cuban visual artist and photographer whose research focuses on identity, the body, and the dynamics of representation. Her work is distinguished by an essential and
recognizable formal language, in which photography becomes a space of affirmation and presence. Through frontal portraits and carefully controlled staging, Guilarte reinterprets the body as a symbolic territory shaped by memory, spirituality, and cultural belonging. Her works have been presented internationally and are held in private and institutional collections.
