Project Description
Gianluigi
Di Napoli
Gianluigi Di Napoli was born in Puglia in 1962. At the age of 20 he moved to Florence to study Architecture.
Here he soon created an excellent reputation as a photographer in the music and theater scene. He later founded a visual and photographic communication studio.
In 1999 he published the photographic book Circus Life – Everynight, all around the World with the Zurich publisher Stemmle. The book offers a look behind the scenes, the work and daily life of a circus family through images of sensuality, movement and quiet portraits full of mysterious beauty, quickly becoming an international cult book in circus circles. In 2004 he produced the photographic exhibition Nel cuore di Saltimbanco with Cirque du Soleil, which became an institutional traveling exhibition of the Saltimbanco show. After working for a few years in Germany, he currently lives and works in Milan. Since 2003 he has collaborated with various magazines portraying celebrities from the world of music, entertainment and international culture. With the MASKS project it involved 12 international Italian icons who put themselves at risk by wearing clown masks painted on their faces made especially for them by David Larible, the most important living clown. The project, designed to create visibility for AIPI Onlus, an association of patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, a rare disease that predominantly affects women, produced calendars and an exhibition hosted at the MIA Fair as a Special Project, at the Triennale Museum in Milan , at the Archiginnasio in Bologna and at the XXI Triennale Expo Gate. Its diffusion in terms of radio, television and international press coverage has been remarkable. It is estimated that the project was seen by around 50 million people. His works have been published in various international journals. He hosts the program The Sound of a Camera, Photography to be heard on Jazz String Radio, a very young web radio.
