Angela Lo Priore is an acclaimed Italian photographer whose work bridges the gap between cinematic portraiture and conceptual fine art. After graduating in Humanities with a specialization in History and Film Criticism from the Sapienza University of Rome, she earned her professional degree in Photography at the IED (Istituto Europeo di Design). The Cinematic Era and Celebrity Portraiture.
In the early 1990s, Lo Priore established herself in Rome as a leading photographer for the film industry. Specializing in international celebrity portraiture, her work was featured extensively in major Italian and foreign publications. In 2006, under the patronage of the inaugural Rome Film Festival, she debuted her exhibition Nel Cinema, a collection of international actor portraits that was subsequently presented at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York in 2007.

Fine Art and the Exploration of the Feminine

Since 2012, her practice has shifted toward non-commissioned fine art projects, with a particular focus on the feminine universe. Her first independent project was set in a decommissioned factory in Cetinje, Montenegro, where she created a photographic installation juxtaposing live models with industrial mannequins. This work gained significant critical attention for its conceptual rigor and was selected for the MIA (Milan Image Art Fair) in 2012.

Monographs and Publications

Lo Priore’s extensive career is documented through a series of significant monographs:
One Hundred Portraits (Skira, 2014): A retrospective volume gathering a hundred celebrity portraits captured over two decades within the world of cinema.
Eat Me! (Skira, 2016): An exploration of the complex relationship between women and food through forty evocative images.
Stairs Obsession (Prearo Editore, 2017): A visual investigation into the contemporary themes of precarious equilibrium and the “attraction to the void,” featuring women captured in metaphorical falls down vertiginous staircases.
Wadadli Feminine (Prearo Editore, 2024): Her latest work, which celebrates the primordial beauty and natural authenticity of the Afro-descendant women of Antigua.

WADADLI FEMININE

An Ethical Manifesto of the Primordial Body

The photographic project by Angela Lo Priore, published by Prearo Editore, found its genesis on the island of Antigua—historically known by its pre-colonial name, Wadadli. This body of work is the culmination of a profound, thirty-year communion between the artist and the island’s landscape. In this monograph, Lo Priore assembles over thirty portraits of Afro-descendant women across generations. These visual narratives are interwoven with the subjects’ own voices: a choral tapestry of poetry, prose, and reflections on liberation, healing, and the reconciliation with one’s physical form.Wadadli Feminine stands as a definitive ethical manifesto against the homogenization of beauty. In an age where Artificial Intelligence propagates a sterile, inaccessible perfection of “polished” bodies, Lo Priore’s work emerges as a subversive and essential provocation: a call to return to the natural state.Through her lens, the feminine body is no longer a social construct but a sacred vessel of truth, reclaiming its space within the primordial harmony of the earth.
